or if you pay moderately close attention to the missiles as they come in, you will see their color scheme. red is thermal, orange is explosive, and blue is EM. there is kinetic, but it's color is close to explosive.

Drizit. for locking here's an easy option. don't right click, lock target, but use the shortcut key of CTRL- left click. by holding down the control key and then clicking your target, you will automatically lock it
